A Brief History
With his passion and natural flair for creating exciting and unusual flavour combinations, Jay Allan, our Managing Director and former chef, created a range of fruits for cheese, similar to Membrillo (quince fruit paste) which became incredibly popular very quickly.
In 2008, he took the leap of faith, leaving his job as Head Chef at a luxury hotel on Dartmoor, to set up Hillside Speciality Foods with his brother, Will. As the business grew and with the development and addition of savoury biscuits and chutneys to the range, we soon became Hillside Foods, creating new and exciting products, predominantly to accompany cheese.
In 2011, we added the New Product Development side of the business and as we expanded we moved from our Exeter kitchen in Spring 2014, to a purpose-built production facility just a few miles away in the picturesque Devon village of Kenn.
Jay now runs Hillside with his wife, Beth. Over the years, our branding has evolved and with the development of other products, not just to accompany cheese, we have switched the cheese knife to a spoon to enable us to broaden our range. We are dedicated to providing our customers with consistently high quality handmade products and a professional service.
